Chasing the Moon returns to Foundry616 for another captivating evening of Gypsy Jazz, Chanson and Swing with a dash of Latin flavor. This engaging sextet brings the exuberant and romantic sounds of Hot Club Jazz to life, imbibing it with their own distinctive style that combines unique arrangements of Gypsy jazz and swing classics alongside original compositions.
Led by Kathy Bluff on violin and vocals and Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute, the band envelopes you in a rich sound, combining soulful vocals and swinging violin with virtuosic saxophone and flute, and that essential Parisian ambiance that comes with the piano accordion of the engaging Garry Steel. Well known Sydney jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides rhythmic pulse and beautiful ‘Djangoesque’ solos. Jessica Dunn (Sirens Big Band) on double bass and Ali Foster (Sirens Big Band, Sydney Women’s Jazz Collective) on drums, lay down the best of grooves.
The music of Chasing the Moon counterpoints darkly chromatic gypsy sounds with the light-hearted flair of American swing and the irresistible charm of the Parisian café, creating an irrepressible joy. Ooh là là, c’est Magnifique! “like walking through a music festival in a European village” Simon Marnie, ABC Radio
