Ex-New Yorker Phillip Johnston’s Greasy Chicken Orchestra!

“Massive fun!” Sydney Morning Herald

Have you heard these guys yet? If you have, then you are in on one of Sydney’s most delightful jazz secrets. And if you haven’t…. well – let us assure you that the runaway success of this band’s Monday night gigs at the club throughout 2016, and recent performances featuring swinging 20s/30s jazz and some of Sydney’s finest musicians celebrating the music of New Orleans, make this one of Sydney’s best nights out!

With a focus on early Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton, tunes include such sizzling numbers as South Rampart Street Parade, Muskrat Ramble, and Grandpa’s Spells.

The band is led by Phillip Johnston, American saxophonist/ composer who lives in Sydney, while still maintaining a musical life in his hometown of New York City. Leading his own bands as well as performing with others, his work as a composer and musician extends across theatre, dance, film and music.

The Greasy Chicken Orchestra is a swinging band that enlivens the otherwise drab first day of the week – so join us for what has become a hip hang with fine food and drink for innocent babes and wild debauches alike!
