Anna Salleh and Guy Strazz – Afro-Brazilian Jazz Moods

This fast-emerging, synergetic duo plays classics such as Berimbau and Chega de Saudade, as well as virtuosic instrumentals like Afro Bouban and Fla Flu. Engaging singer-guitarist Anna Salleh has recently created lyrics for a few of Guy’s well known originals such as the APRA Awarded Mandela, and Fijindia from the ABC’s Colours album, as well as the new Bondi Beach! Beyond The Girl from Ipanema, come on a deeper journey into the heart of Afro-Brazilian music.

Strazz/McMhaon/Scott Trio – World Beat Jazz

Guy Strazz is one of Australia’s distinguished guitar virtuosos of his generation. He is an APRA awarded composer, a guitarist with 10 albums to his name, and an extensive list of artists with whom he has performed with, including: Sandy Evans, Ruby Hunter, Dale Barlow, Vishwa M Bhatt, Don Burrows, Mike Stern and Vince Jones.
Pianist Matt McMahon’s list of collaborations is far and wide ranging; from his work with Vince Jones, Phil Slater, and his own trio to Katie Noonan. Matt was the pianist on Guy Strazz’ Blue Phoenix and Frangipani ABC jazz releases, and their last duo recording effort, 2@1 (Birdland), earned them an Australian Independent Recording (AIR) nomination for Best Jazz release in 2009 – their collaboration has continued until 2015.
Described as being “Amongst the most lyrical voices in the land” (John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald), this reunion sees them joined by Craig Scott, one of Australia’s leading bassists for the last 30 years. Scott leads his own quintet and has graced stages with a host of local and international artists such as Don Burrows, Warwick Alder, Joe Henderson, Red Rodney, and George Cables.
The trio set comprises Afro-Latin tunes, modern jazz standards and some of Guy’s new World beat compositions. Anna Salleh’s will join the trio for two tunes as a special treat.

“Guy Strazz has the rare musical gift of being able to make his guitars ‘sing, pianists and violinists are always striving to achieve this singing quality to their sound; only a handful of the very gifted ones ever achieve it”. Tony Magee, (APRA)
