As a multi-instrumentalist (primarily saxophone, clarinet, piano and flute) Lawson has been lauded for finding “fresh ways to combine sophistication with immediacy and subtlety with charm” (John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald).
Originally from Cairns, saxophonist and composer Kim Lawson, has spent most of the past two decades living and working in Sydney. Lawson has produced two album under his own name ‘Alive and Kicking’ (Kim Lawson Trio, Jazzgroove records) and ‘Hey Day’ (Yum Yum Tree Records).
Of Hey Day, John McBeath (The Australian) wrote: “Four stars….A tightly cohesive quartet of highly accomplished artists playing nine originals, six penned by the leader. Led by Lawson, all of these players are of very high quality and they work together coherently, each member contributing equally to a high energy, polished collection”.
This new incarnation of his quartet features Greg Coffin on piano, James Hauptmann on drums and Max Alducca on bass. Always an exciting journey of inspired music with plenty of gnarly collective risk taking along the way.
